AC and Heating Systems Self-Service Safety Tips

At Three Rivers Services, we want to make sure that YOUR needs are met! Whether that means we come out for a service check, evaluate if you need a new ac/heating system, are performing our biannual maintenance agreement, or just passing along savings tips, we always try to look out for you. As we transition into those hot summer months, we want to make sure you know what to look out for if you are checking your ac/heating system.

Carbon Monoxide

One of the questions we frequently get from those of you who have a gas furnace is whether they need to worry about carbon monoxide. The answer? Yes!! Because the unit runs on natural gas, it does produce carbon monoxide from the burnt fuel. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that your furnace is working properly so that the carbon monoxide doesn’t go into your home!

Power Surge

Lots of homeowners attempt to service their systems on their own. We know that happens all the time, which is why we want to remind you to always disconnect the power before you attempt to do any work on your furnace or ac. If you are cleaning the outside unit, there can be quite a dangerous energy surge when the water hits it, even if the power is turned off, so you want to make sure that you have actually turned off the power to the unit when you work on it.

Debris

Living in South Louisiana, we are all too familiar with those spring storms. And when they blow through, they can pack quite a wallop. So if you are servicing your furnace or ac system, be sure to check that nothing has damaged your outside unit. Tree limbs and other debris can damage your unit without you knowing it, which can be a major problem when you try to turn on the ac. So as part of your post-storm yard check, make sure that you check your HVAC system.

We hope these tips and suggestions are helpful if you decide to check your heating system/ac unit as the weather is finally changing. Saving money is important, but not if it puts your safety at risk! And if you need any additional assistance, know that you can always call Three Rivers Services at (985) 238-3239 to see if we can help!
