HVAC Myths

Caring for your HVAC system is very important, but weeding out different myths that aren’t beneficial can be challenging. To help you decide what services actually work best for you we will look into some of these myths and hopefully by the end you will have a better understanding of how to get the longest life out of your HVAC system.

Myth 1: The bigger the better

Truth: Having the biggest HVAC system isn’t always the best thing for your home. Having a system that is too big can actually do more harm than good. One way of having a system that is too large can have an effect on your home is that it may struggle to properly remove humidity. In this case, it is more about how efficient your system is rather than the size.

Myth 2: Filters only need to be replaced once a year

Truth: Changing your filter is a very crucial part of maintaining your HVAC system, but it is also a step that many neglects. To get the longest possible lifespan out of your HVAC system it is best to change your filter every 30 days. However, if you have pets who experience a lot of shedding it may be in your best interest to change your filter more frequently than 30 days.

Myth 3: If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it

Truth: Just like you need regular maintenance for your car, you also need regular maintenance for your HVAC system. While it may seem like a system that maintains itself it is very important to get someone out to check your system to make sure it’s working properly before any large or expensive repairs are needed. It is important to note that HVAC specialists are trained to catch things that you wouldn’t necessarily look for yourself such as leaks within the home. This can have a huge effect on how well your HVAC system is able to perform.

Myth 4: Turning up the thermostat

Truth: The thermostat is only a physical representation of the temperature you want your home to be. In reality if your HVAC system isn’t working properly you home will have a hard time reflecting the temperature in which you have set. There are many things that can contribute to why your home isn’t cool as what it should be such as leaks within your home or a need for new insulation. This, however, goes back to the importance of having regular maintenance to catch these issues that you as the homeowner may overlook. Preventative maintenance can save you a lot of time, money, and a future headache as well.
